[The Academy] broadened my knowledge and helped me see the bigger picture. I knew it takes a team to accomplish anything, but there are also so many roles I knew little to nothing about, which made me appreciate the opportunity I have even more. The Academy helped me network and connect with professionals from different areas, and I learned about the broad range of opportunities available, from content creation and event production to business development. This helped me realize even more that the esports industry offers many career paths beyond the competitive side.

There were many esports careers that I knew very little about prior to [The Academy]. Support staff and production/media ended up being areas I developed a strong interest in after only knowing the basics. At the onsite events, we were able to walk through the processes involved with these roles in person, and I was able to truly see myself in those roles.

The most exciting part of the program was getting to know the incredible people behind G2 Esports, Mastercard, and Riot Games, and especially traveling around the world to attend major esports events alongside them. Being surrounded by professionals who share the same passion for esports as I do was truly inspiring.

If you’re thinking right now that you’re not going to apply because you might not be good enough, stop that and record that video—no matter where you’re from or what you look like, as long as you have an undying passion. We got a unique opportunity to see how the biggest events/companies work with people bringing their personal stories that showed us that the path to the industry varies individually. 

On a personal level I’m so happy that I have the connection with my classmates, we created very strong friendships that will hopefully last long after the academy.
